STM publisher Springer has announced that the University of Hong Kong (HKU) Libraries has signed a renewal agreement that allows researchers with affiliation to the HKU to publish their research results in Springer journals by using Springer Open Choice.
After a one-year pilot project, which began in March 2010, both parties are satisfied with the results relating to article submission rates, business model acceptance and usage on the part of HKU authors. The agreement is being extended until February 2012, and expands from a single article Open Choice model to a larger scale open access publishing partnership for HKU authors and researchers.
HKU is one of the first academic institutions in Asia to join Springer Open Choice. All accepted HKU articles will appear in Springer print journals, and will be published electronically using Open Choice on SpringerLink, PubMed Central, and the HKU institutional repository, The HKU Scholars Hub.
