Springer Nature, a global leader in academic publishing, has announced the signing of a Transformative Agreement (TA) with Couperin, the French consortium for higher education and research establishments. This landmark multi-year agreement, set to commence in July 2024, will facilitate open access (OA) publishing for participating members, thereby enhancing the global visibility and impact of French researchers.
The agreement signifies a major shift towards open-access publishing, allowing researchers affiliated with Couperin member institutions to publish their research in open-access formats. This transition is expected to significantly increase the reach and influence of French scientific contributions on a global scale.
In addition to the OA publishing benefits, the agreement includes reading access to over 2,200 titles across the Springer, Palgrave, and Adis imprints. This comprehensive access underscores Springer Nature’s commitment to supporting and expanding one of Europe’s key academic markets.
Seventeen renowned French institutions are set to join this transformative agreement. Among them are Paris Dauphine University, University Toulouse 3, and Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC), along with prestigious research bodies like Hospices Civil de Lyon (HCL) and the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). These institutions will lead the transition to the new agreement, setting a precedent for others to follow.
Moreover, the agreement is open to all Couperin members at any stage, including those who are not currently subscribers to Springer Nature journals. This inclusive approach aims to broaden the scope of access and participation, fostering a more extensive and collaborative academic environment in France.
