STM publisher Springer's signature materials database - SpringerMaterials - has got a total overhaul to make the new site more nimble and user friendly. Changes are far more than cosmetic as the entire site has been migrated to the same technology as the publisher's flagship platform, SpringerLink.
By leveraging the same technology used for other Springer databases and platforms, the new SpringerMaterials can now offer the widely applauded and industry-leading features of SpringerLink. Device-agnostic (responsive) design allows users to access the database anywhere in the world on any device, and new 'user journeys' allow researchers to search, refine and interactively analyze content in ways that were previously unavailable. The new features include a 'facet' tool with filters that enable users to restrict results to properties, materials discipline or specific databases.
The content on the new SpringerMaterials platform will remain virtually untouched, including the flagship Landolt-Börnstein New Series database. In 2015 Springer expects to add even more quality content to SpringerMaterials, including new Landolt-Börnstein volumes, updates to the existing databases, and the introduction of new databases, including a 80,000-page materials review database.
For those interested in taking the new platform for a test drive, Springer staff will be on hand at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The Springer stand is located in hall 4.2 G6.
