STM publisher Springer Science+Business Media, Germany, and WEKA Group have reached an understanding for the sale of Springer Business Media Austria GmbH to WEKA Group. The anticipated transaction is subject to competition authority review in Austria. Based in Vienna, Springer Business Media Austria groups Springer's business-to-business publishing activities in Austria, and publishes titles in four thematic areas - Technology & Industry, Transportation, Commerce and Construction & Living.
Springer Wien New York, part of Springer Science+Business Media's STM publishing activity, and also based in Vienna as Springer-Verlag GmbH, is not part of this anticipated transaction, and will remain part of Springer Science+Business Media.
Katharina Oppitz, Managing Director of Springer Business Media Austria, has announced that she will leave the company shortly after the sale. She joined Springer Business Media Austria in 2005 as Head of Finance and became Managing Director in 2006. During this period, her main achievements have been the successful re-launching of a number of key titles and the re-engineering of core processes in order to achieve higher efficiency.
