Springer to sponsor guest professorship at Munich's Ludwig Maximilians University -

Scientific publisher Springer, Germany, has announced that it will be sponsoring a guest professorship at Munich's Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) in 2008. The internationally leading expert Michael Cusumano from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will take up his post at the Institute for Information Systems and New Media at LMU in May. He will lecture there for around two weeks. Prof. Cusumano is head of a research group at MIT devoted to the particular laws and rules governing the software industry, currently the only research project of its kind.

The aim of the annual guest professorship on the Faculty of Business Administration is to address special topics of information economics. This special arrangement is expected to give students at the institute access to information from qualified experts and allow them to understand how this knowledge was put into practice.

Research into the economic principles underlying the software industry is the current focus of research at the institute in Munich. In 2007, the institute's director Thomas Hess founded the Software Economics Group Darmstadt Munich as a joint project with Prof. Peter Buxmann from Darmstadt's University of Technology. Their book Die Softwareindustrie - Ökonomische Prinzipien, Strategien, Perspektiven was published at the beginning of the year.
