SRL names Hongfeng Yang as first Deputy Editor-in-Chief -

Seismological Research Letters (SRL) has appointed Hongfeng Yang as its first deputy Editor-in-Chief, marking a new phase in the journal’s editorial leadership. Yang will assume the role beginning December 1.

Yang is a professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and has served on SRL’s editorial board since 2018. In his expanded role, he will help shape editorial processes and support the journal’s continued growth alongside editor-in-chief Allison Bent.

With editorial experience spanning journals such as Earthquake Science, Earthquake Research Advances, Tectonophysics, and others, Yang brings deep expertise in areas such as earthquake source physics, subduction zones, fault zone structure and evolution, and induced earthquakes. His vision for the role includes strengthening reviewer engagement, developing author communities, and expanding readership in an increasingly competitive publishing landscape.

Yang emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary submissions that apply seismological methods in new contexts, which he sees as vital for raising the profile of the field.

He is also a member of several professional organizations including the American Geophysical Union, Chinese Geophysical Society, and the Seismological Society of China, where he serves on the executive board. Yang earned his Ph.D. from Saint Louis University after completing his B.S. and M.S. in geophysics in China.
