Stellenbosch University (SU) has launched their new institutional data repository, SUNScholarData, powered by Figshare. Their repository is available at https://scholardata.sun.ac.za/.
Their new data repository allows research data outputs from the University to be stored, shared, and cited, giving researchers credit for all their work. All outputs in their repository are assigned a DOI for persistent identification and data is marked for indexing in search engines like Google Dataset Search. Data also benefits from review prior to publication by using Figshare’s built-in curation module.
SUNScholarData met two strategic objectives of the Library and Information Services at the University: to create a medium through which SU’s research data can be made findable and accessible; and to facilitate the interoperability and re-usability of the University’s research data.
