Stephen McLeod appointed Editor-in-Chief of Ophthalmology Journal -

Dr. Stephen McLeod, the Theresa M. and Wayne M. Caygill, MD, Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at UC San Francisco, has been appointed editor-in-chief of Ophthalmology, the official journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He will assume the new role effective January 1, 2017.

A UCSF faculty member since 1998, McLeod is a highly respected clinician, specialising in refractive surgery, cataract and corneal disease. He is also a noted researcher, with more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, focusing on infectious keratitis and intraocular device development to restore near vision to patients undergoing cataract surgery.

Ophthalmology is the most widely read clinical publication within the medical specialty of ophthalmology. McLeod brings extensive publishing experience to his new role, having served for 20 years on the editorial board and as associate editor for the American Medical Association’s journal for ophthalmology research, the Archives of Ophthalmology, and on the editorial board of its successor, JAMA Ophthalmology.

McLeod currently serves as the Academy’s Secretary for Quality of Care. He is on the board of directors of the American Board of Ophthalmology and the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation, and is a member of the Ophthalmic Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee of the Food and Drug Administration and the National Advisory Eye Council of the National Institutes of Health.
