The International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM) and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC) have jointly announced the launch of the ISTIC–STM Open Research Fund 2025. This initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations in Beijing on September 26, 2024, aimed at strengthening collaboration between China and the international research community.
The newly established fund, introduced through application guidelines released in July 2025, invites proposals from China’s academic publishing community and researchers. It is designed to support studies that contribute to building a more open, credible, and sustainable global research ecosystem.
The 2025 call for proposals centers on three strategic and high-priority research themes:
• Research on copyright issues related to artificial intelligence
• Research on maintaining content credibility within academic publishing
• Research on the social responsibilities of scientific journals
Through this initiative, STM and ISTIC seek to promote research integrity, support scholarly innovation, and bring diverse regional perspectives into global discussions on the future of scholarly communication.
