The STM Association has announced the appointment of Donna Okubo as the newly-established STM Community Engagement Manager. In this pivotal role, Donna will collaborate with a wide array of stakeholder groups across the STM ecosystem, including STM members, funders, allied organizations, and partners. Her mission is to enhance the community by listening, learning, and discovering new ways to collaborate and advance trusted research together.
Donna Okubo joins STM with more than 20 years of experience in science and data publishing. Her extensive background includes community and member engagement, membership program development, strategic partnerships, and fundraising. Her previous role at Dryad, a research data publisher, saw her laying the groundwork for their institutional membership program and collaborating with funders and researchers on strategic initiatives.
Donna's impressive career includes over 14 years at the Public Library of Science (PLOS), where she served in various roles from Institutional Relations Manager to Senior Strategic Partnership Manager. During her tenure at PLOS, she worked closely with institutional members, funders, and policymakers, solidifying her reputation as a skilled community builder and strategic developer.
Beyond her publishing experience, Donna's background in non-profit fundraising and consulting work with hospitals, museums, and women's and civil rights organizations further informs her multifaceted approach to community building and strategic development. This diverse experience will be instrumental in her new role at STM.
Donna's appointment signifies STM's commitment to fostering a more engaged and collaborative community within the scientific, technical, and medical publishing sectors.
