STM participated in the 2025 Mid-Year Meetings of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), held in Luxembourg from 19 to 21 May. The event convened over 120 delegates from 62 member organizations, representing collective management bodies, publishers, authors, academics, and European policymakers. The meetings offered a forum for collaborative discussion on the evolving landscape of copyright and its implications for the publishing and rights management sectors.
Hosted by IFRRO member Luxorr, the event featured sessions addressing several critical dimensions of contemporary copyright. A central focus was a dedicated session on recent legal proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), where developments in jurisprudence were explored in depth. Discussions also addressed broader systemic challenges, including the intersection of copyright law and artificial intelligence, changes in domestic originality standards, and shifting dynamics in copyright licensing frameworks.
In addition to the general sessions, a dedicated Publisher Meeting provided a platform for rights holders and stakeholders to consider practical and legal challenges confronting the publishing industry. The multi-stakeholder nature of the discussions reinforced the ongoing need for dialogue that supports innovation while safeguarding the rights and contributions of creators and publishers.
STM’s participation reflects its continued commitment to engaging in global forums to represent the interests of its membership and to advance a sustainable and trusted knowledge ecosystem. The collaboration with IFRRO underscores shared priorities in promoting robust copyright systems that enable both equitable access and the recognition of intellectual contributions.
