STM publishes Trends 2030 report on scholarly communication drivers -

STM has released STM Trends 2030: A Voyage Into the Unknown — Navigating Shifts, Propelling Discovery, its annual horizon scan of developments shaping scholarly communication.

The report, prepared by senior members of STM’s STEC Committee and Future Lab, highlights four interconnected drivers expected to influence the publishing landscape:

• Geopolitical changes affecting international research collaboration

• Increasing challenges to scientific authority

• Shifts in research funding and power structures

• The expanding role of artificial intelligence in research production and dissemination

Hylke Koers, Chief Information Officer at STM Solutions, stated that the annual Trends report encourages the community to step back from daily work and consider long‑term directions. He noted that the forces shaping scholarly communication by 2030 are significant, but also present opportunities to navigate them collectively.

The full Trends 2030 report is available through STM.
