Switzerland renews national agreement with Frontiers, reinforcing commitment to open access -

Open-access publisher Frontiers has announced the renewal of its national agreement with The Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries (CSAL) for another year. The extension of the partnership highlights the Swiss research community's dedication to open access and streamlining the publishing process for researchers and librarians alike.

The agreement, initially signed in 2022, simplifies and enhances the publishing experience for Swiss researchers. By renewing this national deal, Switzerland reaffirms its commitment to advancing open access and empowering researchers within the country.

The renewal of the Swiss agreement contributes to Frontiers' growing portfolio of international deals. Recent partnerships have been formed with consortiums in the United Kingdom, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Slovenia, reflecting Frontiers' commitment to fostering global collaborations in the pursuit of open science.

Under the renewed agreement, 15 institutions and research centers in Switzerland will benefit from its terms. New institutions can register to participate at any time, and there is no annual fee required to join.

Participating institutions and researchers will gain access to a range of benefits and services offered by Frontiers. These include a national discount on article processing charges (APCs), centralized and flexible invoicing, various payment options, and the support of a dedicated account manager for library staff.

Researchers will also have access to collaborative peer-review, comprehensive article and author impact metrics, and enhanced dissemination tools such as Loop, which helps maximize research visibility.

Frontiers offers continuous registration, allowing institutions to join the partnership at any time without annual fees. Additionally, partners have the opportunity to contribute to the development of Frontiers' partnership models, ensuring ongoing improvement and alignment with the evolving needs of the research community.

The current participants in the Swiss partnership include prominent institutions such as Agroscope, ETH Zurich, Haute école pédagogique du canton de Vaud (HEP Vaud), Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, PSI – Paul Scherrer Institute, Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL), Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa), Università della Svizzera italiana, University of Bern, University of Geneva, University of Lausanne, University of Neuchâtel, and Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).
