Serials Solutions, a business unit of the US-based ProQuest LLC, has announced that Syracuse University Library has selected the Summon service to provide complete discovery of the library's vast collections – including close to 3 million volumes and more than 25,000 subscription online journals, databases, and e-books. A cornerstone of the Summon service is its unified index, which makes the breadth of the library's collections discoverable without reliance on federated search.
Syracuse University Library selected the Summon service after considerable research and review of discovery services from multiple vendors. Syracuse becomes the latest Association of Research Libraries (ARL) member to select the Summon service which is now the chosen discovery service for nearly 30 percent of ARL academic libraries.
The Summon service provides the most full-text searchable content in its single unified index. The Summon index contains more than 800 million records which are optimised for discovery using an exclusive match and merge process for content ingestion. This allows the Summon service to return a single, unified result set, with superior relevancy, and provide unparalleled options for scoping searches and navigating large result sets.
