Taylor & Francis unveils its first open research publishing platform with F1000 -

Academic publisher Taylor & Francis will launch its first Open Research Publishing platform for the Materials Science community, utilizing the publishing model, technology and knowledge pioneered by their open research publishing partner F1000, which they acquired in 2020. This joint initiative strengthens their shared goals of amplifying and democratizing research and is another firm step forward in expanding Taylor & Francis’ capabilities into open research and open access publishing.

The publishing platform, known as Materials Open Research, offers researchers and industry experts within the Materials Science community, a space to publish, share and promote their work in an accessible and transparent way.

Materials Open Research offers the innovative open research publishing and peer review model pioneered by F1000 to the materials, minerals and mining science and engineering communities. It has been created to ensure that researchers and industry experts within the Materials Science community have a space to publish, share and promote their work in an accessible and transparent way.

The platform enables all research outputs to be published open access and combines the benefits of pre-printing with mechanisms to assure quality and transparency. These include invited and open peer review, article versioning, archiving and indexing. F1000 endorses the FAIR Data Principles and so authors will be able to share their underlying data, further accelerating the pace of discovery, providing credit and recognition for authors, and improving public trust in research.

The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) is the first affiliate partners to join Materials Open Research, extending the pre-existing publishing partnership between IOM3 and Taylor & Francis by expanding its publishing portfolio, allowing all research outputs to be distributed quickly, openly and without barriers and in compliance with OA policy mandates from around the world.

As well as research articles, Materials Open Research also features a variety of article types such as Data Notes, Software Tools and Methods Articles and encourages null, negative, replication and confirmatory studies alongside new and original research. In addition, Materials Open Research will provide the option to publish non-peer reviewed materials including technical reports, training materials, posters, slides, and other documents.
