The Company of Biologists renews Read & Publish OA agreement with JULAC -

The Company of Biologists has renewed a three-year Read & Publish Open Access agreement with the Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee (JULAC) covering the period from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2028.

The agreement allows corresponding authors at participating institutions in Hong Kong to publish an unlimited number of Open Access research articles in five journals — Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanisms, and Biology Open — without paying article processing charges. Researchers at these institutions will also continue to have unlimited access to the journals’ archives dating back to 1853.

The renewal reinforces JULAC’s commitment to enabling Open Access publishing in line with its Position Statement on Open Scholarship and strengthens collaboration between libraries and researchers in Hong Kong.

The Company of Biologists highlighted the continuation of the partnership as part of its wider initiative to expand cost-neutral Read & Publish agreements globally. More than 1,000 institutions in 55 countries now participate in this initiative, which supports the transition toward greater Open Access publishing.
