The Company of Biologists renews Read & Publish open access agreement with MALMAD through 2028 -

The Company of Biologists has renewed its five-journal Read & Publish open access agreement with MALMAD, Israel’s Inter-University Center for Digital Information Services, extending the partnership for a further three years from January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2028.

Under the renewed agreement, researchers affiliated with eight participating Israeli institutions will be able to publish an uncapped number of research articles as immediate open access without paying article processing charges. Coverage applies across the publisher’s three transformative journals, Development, Journal of Cell Science, and Journal of Experimental Biology, as well as its two fully open access titles, Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open.

In addition to publishing benefits, participating institutions will retain unlimited read access to the transformative journals, including full archival content dating back to 1853. The agreement is designed to support continued progress toward open access publishing while maintaining access to long-established scholarly content.

The institutions participating in the 2026–2028 agreement include Bar-Ilan University, Ben Gurion University, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) in Haifa, Tel Aviv University, the University of Haifa, and the Weizmann Institute of Science.
