The German National Library of Science and Technology features new name, website and corporate design -

The German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) has been transformed into a public-law foundation of the Federal State of Lower Saxony on January 1, 2016 following the merger of the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) and Leibniz Universität Hannover University Library (UB). The foundation bears the additional designation Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library.

There had been calls for the establishment of an independent foundation featuring autonomy and creative freedom for TIB since 2011. It is the result of an evaluation that TIB, as a member of the Leibniz Association, must undergo every seven years.

The new TIB Portal featuring a modern design, improved user guidance and a new site structure is now available under the domain www.tib.eu. The library has combined its previous internet sites to create a common website, which will offer a single search and order portal in future. The entire functions and services that used to be available via the GetInfo specialist portal have been integrated into the new TIB Portal. With the preselected setting Science and technology, searches for specialist and research information are automatically conducted in the technical and scientific subject areas. The technical basis for searching the TIB Portal is the search engine technology previously used for GetInfo.

In the course of 2016, the next step will involve completely integrating the search system for the local target group – the OPAC catalogue – into the search functions of the TIB Portal. Until then, the catalogue will initially remain an independent search system for all those who use the library locally. The catalogue can already be searched via the TIB Portal: using the setting All subjects, users can search all subject areas, including the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Not only does TIB have a new legal form and a new TIB Portal, the library now also features a new logo and a different corporate design. TIB's aim is to convey a consistent visual appearance, inwardly and outwardly, to enhance the library's strategic orientation. In future, there will be greater focus on the TIB brand: greater awareness of the brand will enable the library to attract greater attention, and become recognised and perceived more easily.
