The iPad model can bring developments in management and efficiency in developing nations -

While Apple Inc. has focused its sales of the iPad in the West, the most interesting market for iPad-like tablet devices in countries like India could be small businesses and start-ups, according to a recent post in the Wall Street Journal. The post, authored by Alok Mittal, General Partner, Canaan India, states that many of these businesses outside India's tech sector are yet to adopt the PC platform due to high initial investments, unreliable connectivity and weak infrastructure. Their usage could bring developments in management and efficiency.

Such factors have been a barrier to the development of small businesses. The alleged intrusiveness of PCs has kept non-tech businesses behind other countries in terms of using technology as a tool. On the other hand, telecom companies in India have witnessed huge growth due to affordability of devices that merge data services and communication.

By initiating this technology to small businesses in India or other developing nations, a company could marry the convenience of the large-screen touch model to the ease of telecom services, improving management processes in small businesses, says Mittal. He further notes that for decades, IT solution providers have thought about hardware (largely, PC platforms) and software as building blocks. Alternatively, telecom has always been about turnkey managed services managing network connectivity and customer service. With what Apple has achieved over the past few years through the launch of the iPhone, iPod and iPad, which provide not just the software or hardware, but also the related service, those paradigms are seen to be merging.
