Science of Synthesis 4.17, the latest release of Thieme's reference resource on reliable synthetic methods, now provides the international chemistry community with an overview of the state of the art in synergistic dual catalysis. The new volumes outline basic concepts in an understandable manner as well as providing carefully selected examples of the application of this new approach facilitating the synthesis of organic molecules.
The field of dual catalysis has developed rapidly over the last decade and the concept of cooperative dual catalysis aims to efficiently increase molecular complexity. The two volumes of ‘Dual Catalysis in Organic Synthesis’, edited by Gary Molander and with 22 authored contributions, provide experts as well as newcomers to the area with the most useful and reliable methods for dual catalysis combining metal catalysts, organocatalysts, photocatalysts, and biocatalysts. Researchers faced with challenging transformations in synthesis are offered practical and up-to-date solutions from the field of dual catalysis.
Combinations of palladium, nickel, copper, zinc, iridium, gold, rhodium, and iron are covered within the realm of metal/metal dual catalysis, while in metal/photocatalyst dual catalysis, the focus is on the use of nickel, palladium, and gold complexes with metal-based or organic photocatalysts.
For metal/organocatalyst dual catalytic processes, the metals highlighted are palladium, gold, and rhodium. Dual catalytic processes involving the combination of metal/biocatalyst, organocatalyst/photocatalyst, organocatalyst/biocatalyst, two organocatalysts, or two biocatalysts are also reviewed.
To celebrate 20 years of Science of Synthesis, Thieme Chemistry is making a selection of SoS reviews freely available to everyone. Interested parties may visit https://www.thieme.de/en/thieme-chemistry/20-years-science-of-synthesis-152073.htm.
