The Royal Society has announced the launch of Royal Society Open Science, a new open-access journal that will publish papers from a variety of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines.
The Royal Society's new journal will boast some non-traditional features, such as the option for submitting authors to request open peer review and the acceptance of manuscripts on studies that generated negative results. The journal welcomes the submission of all high quality science including articles which may usually be difficult to publish elsewhere, for instance, those that include negative findings.
In a related move, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), publisher of Science, recently announced the launch of Science Advances, a broadly focused, online-only publication. Just as papers declined for publication in Science and Science Translational Medicine will be considered for Science Advances, Royal Society Open Science will also consider manuscripts from other Royal Society titles, in addition to original submissions.
