Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced that Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTW Dresden) and Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK Leipzig) have opted to deploy the Ex Libris Alma unified resource management solution and the Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution.
The universities selected these solutions to adapt their library services to the changes in users' preferences that have occurred in recent years and the dramatic increase in the quantity of electronic resources in the libraries' collections. Because Alma and Primo will be deployed as cloud-based solutions, library staff will be relieved of hardware- management chores and the installation of updates. As a result, the staff will be able to devote more time to core library tasks.
Dresden University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1992 and consists of eight faculties, with approximately 170 professors and more than 5,000 students. Engineering, economics, design, and "green" disciplines constitute the four pillars on which more than 40 forward-looking diploma, bachelor's, and master's degree programs are based. The library is one of the University's central institutions.
With about 5,900 students, Leipzig University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest universities of its kind in Germany. For more than 200 years, the University and its predecessors have been providing high-quality, career-relevant education in a diverse range of fields through innovative courses, excellent teaching, and state-of the art facilities. The library was built in 2009 and offers state-of-the art facilities, spacious reading rooms, and nearly 10,000 meters of shelf space packed with specialized literature. It is home to nearly 300,000 books, journals, and audiovisual items.
