Thieme launches customisable web-based tool for faculty to prepare dissection guides for students -

STM publisher Thieme Publishing Group, Germany, has announced the launch of Thieme Dissector. Thieme Dissector claims to be a first of its kind, completely customisable, web-based tool for faculty to prepare perfect dissection guides for their students.

The Thieme Dissector is organised by body region and into 90 dissection modules, featuring text, images, and pop-ups. Instructors can reorder the sequence of modules and completely customise the text to match their preferences on how to dissect and what structures to identify. Instructors can also choose to include pop-ups showing muscle attachment, innervation and action in great detail. Students will benefit from the high-quality illustrations, adapted from the Atlas of Anatomy by Gilroy et al.

Institutions will be able to subscribe to the Thieme Dissector for their faculty and students on a rolling annual basis. Students can access their instructor's customised dissection guide online, download it to their computers, view it on iPads or iPhones, or simply print it out.

More than 250 short, narrated high-resolution videos showing dissection steps and structure identification will be made available for faculty and students later in 2011. In Spring 2012, multiple-choice lab practical questions with answer feedback will be added for self-assessment or use in exams.
