Thieme publishes Harms Study Group guide on idiopathic scoliosis -

STM publisher Thieme Publishing Group, Germany, has announced that it has published the Idiopathic Scoliosis: The Harms Study Group Treatment Guide. The textbook is projected as the culmination of more than a decade of research and observation by members of the Harms Study Group. It is designed for spinal deformity surgeons who treat idiopathic scoliosis, a dramatic curvature of the spine that accounts for 80-85% of all scoliosis cases.

The guide is stated to cotains over 600 high-quality illustrations, numerous full-colour clinical photographs, detailed line drawings and high-resolution radiographs. Additional features include chapters on key treatment decisions as well as material on curve assessment and treatment recommendations listed by curve type and pattern.

The Harms Study Group, a team of experts dedicated to improving care through clinical research, developed a database of patients who have been treated surgically for idiopathic deformities of the spine during puberty. Since its inception in 1995 this database has expanded to include more than 2,300 patients whose experiences have provided the foundation for the Theime textbook. Using these cases and data sets, the authors guide the reader through specific surgical and non-operative approaches to the multiple types of scoliosis, including guidance on the rationale for each approach, techniques, and results based upon their substantial clinical data.
