Thieme publishes new manual on physical therapy techniques for stroke patients -

STM publisher Thieme Publishing Group, Germany, recently published the ‘Physical Therapy for the Stroke Patient,’ that covers all the issues that physical therapists must deal with in this critical period. These include assessment of patients' abilities; care during the acute phase; early mobilisation; effects of medication; risk factors; ethical questions; and much more.

The new manual provides complete guidelines on how to examine and treat the patient, the dosage of physical therapy required, and the key differences between early and late stage rehabilitation after stroke. It includes an information-packed chapter entitled ‘Optimizing Functional Motor Recovery after Stroke,’ by Janet Carr and Roberta Shepherd, pioneers in the field and the first to correlate motor learning and stroke recovery.

It is expected that the manual will not only increase therapeutic skills and confidence, but will also expand the readers' knowledge of medical issues and long-term outcomes for the post-stroke patients in their care.
