Medical publisher Thieme has reportedly published a guide titled The Audiology Capstone: Research, Presentation, and Publication. The publication is projected as a thorough, step-by-step guide that leads audiology students through their final research project, the Capstone. In four major sections, the textbook presents key information - from finding a topic and mentor, through researching the subject, writing the report, and submitting it to the review board and peer-reviewed journals.
According to its author Dr. Michael Valente, one of the goals of the guide was to try and literally "walk" the reader through the entire process by providing very specific examples along the way. Dr. Valente is with Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, Washington University School of Medicine at St. Louis, Missouri.
With more than 300 illustrations, the manual includes a section on how to conduct research with examples and screenshots from various databases. To describe the entire research process thoroughly, this title was reportedly prepared by an interdisciplinary team offering not only their expertise but also different perspectives on the steps of the Capstone. These include a chapter written by a student who had already gone through the described process.
