STM publisher Thieme Publishing Group, Germany, has announced an archiving agreement with non-profit electronic archiving service provider Portico, US. Under the deal, all journals and backfiles available through Thieme eJournals (www.thieme-connect.com/ejournals) are being archived with the organisation.
The long-term availability of electronic publications is seen to be a major concern for librarians and publishers. Through this agreement with Portico, the publisher seeks to ensure that its scholarly work is both secure and accessible for future scholars, researchers, and students.
Since its launch in 2005, Portico has archived more than 8 million articles for its customers. The system was built after obtaining extensive input from academic librarians and publishing companies. By working closely with them, the organisation has developed a sustainable service that balances the needs of everyone in search of a stable, reliable and trusted third party archive.
