Thieme realigns leadership structure -

As of April 1, 2016, Dr. H.C. Albrecht Hauff, publisher and managing partner of the Thieme Publishing Group, and Thieme’s managing director Dr. Wolfgang Knüppe will appoint four executives to the newly formed extended management board. With the new management line-up, the leading provider of media and information services for the medical professions strengthens its position in view of future challenges, brought mainly by the ongoing trend towards digitalisation.

Dr. Albrecht Hauff and Dr. Wolfgang Knüppe have been managing the Thieme Group for many years. Under their leadership, the organisation has evolved into one of the largest publishing houses in Germany, with an annual turnover approaching €150 million. To secure Thieme's future, Hauff and Knüppe will implement a strategy of digitalisation and internationalisation. Furthermore, they want to continue to develop Thieme's core markets in the area of German-language medical publications and services as well as coordinate marketing and sales activities more closely.

This strategy will be reflected on the highest level by the new, extended management board that will comprise four divisions. The appointed heads of three of these departments already hold leadership positions within the Publishing Group: Dr. Udo Schiller, currently Director of Clinical Publishing, will join the new management board as manager for the German-language division; Brian D. Scanlan, managing director of Thieme's international subsidiaries, will be in charge of international markets. Erwin Selg, as the Publishing Group's CIO, will be responsible for all technology and digitalisation activities. In addition, there will be a Marketing and Sales division, which will cover all Thieme initiatives regarding customer generation and retention, sales channels, and distribution partners. Effective immediately, Thieme will begin searching for a suitable manager to fill this position.

According to Hauff and Knüppe, the four divisions will be crucial in shaping Thieme's future. Each existing business unit and current department will be assigned to one of these divisions.
