Thieme titles bag honours at 2012 BMA Medical Book Awards -

Scientific and medical publisher Thieme Publishing Group, Germany, has won the first prize in the Radiology category and Highly Commended in the Internal Medicine and Surgical Specialties categories at the 2012 British Medical Association's (BMA) Medical Book Awards ceremony held recently in London.

The first prize in the Radiology category went to Teaching Atlas of Mammography, Fourth Edition by László Tabár and Peter B. Dean. It contains revised and expanded case studies that provide instructive long-term follow-up of patients over a period of up to 25 years.

Endoscopic Ultrasound, Second Edition by Christoph Frank Dietrich won Highly Commended in the Internal Medicine category. This combined textbook and atlas contains chapters on contrast-enhanced EUS techniques, SonoElastography and Hot Spots of Interventional EUS and Portal Hypertension. It is also said to include precise clinical descriptions and valuable tips and techniques for diagnosis and treatment.

Other titles have also won Highly Commended in the Surgical Specialties category. They include Handbook of Spine Surgery by Ali A. Baaj, Praveen V. Mummaneni, Juan S. Uribe, Alexander R. Vaccaro, and Mark S. Greenberg. Authoritative, concise and portable, this handbook is designed for use in a fast-paced clinical setting, according to Thieme.

Also included is Salivary Gland Disorders and Diseases: Diagnosis and Management by Patrick J. Bradley and Orlando Guntinas-Lichius. From new findings at the molecular level, to diagnostic advances in cytopathology, histopathology, biochemistry and imaging studies, this book covers various diagnostic and therapeutic developments and innovations in the field. Its clear, concise and heavily illustrated approach is stated to make it ideal for use by both beginners and more experienced surgeons and physicians.
