Thomson Reuters' 2014 State of Innovation India report identifies Hi-Tech Engineering and Pharma companies as front runners of innovation in India -

The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters has announced the launch of its 2014 State of Innovation India report. This is the second consecutive year of the study, which is conducted by looking at patent activity to gain a clearer understanding of the innovation landscape in India.

The study showcases twelve leading sectors and analyzes the innovation in each based on patent activity. Key findings from this year's report shows that eight of the top 10 patent filers in India are Indian organisations. The two non-Indian top filers are Robert Bosch and Samsung India. According to the report the largest individual sector for innovation in India is Computing & Control, followed closely by Pharmaceuticals. This is the first time Computing & Control has been in the lead. Further, the report notes that new sectors such as Electric Power Engineering, Building & Construction, Semiconductors & Electronic Components, Lighting & Heating and Engines, and Pumps & Compressors have increased innovation activity year over year.

In addition to the findings announced in its State of Innovation India report, Thomson Reuters presented the India Innovation Awards to recognize innovation and entrepreneurship in India. The awards honour the most innovative academic institutions and commercial enterprises headquartered in India for their spirit of innovation in R&D as it relates to Indian patent publications. Six awards were presented this year, two each in Corporate Hi-Tech, Corporate Pharma, and Academic & Government sectors.

Thomson Reuters 2014 State of Innovation India and the India Innovation Awards methodologies are based on research and analysis done using the Derwent World Patents Index, the world's most trusted and authoritative value-added patent database.
