Thomson Reuters launches clinical intelligence dashboard Pharmacy Xpert -

Business information provider Thomson Reuters, US, has announced the launch of Thomson Reuters Pharmacy Xpert - a clinical intelligence dashboard that seeks to help hospital pharmacists better manage medication therapy to improve outcomes, reduce costs and manage risk. The product claims to combine three critical elements that give pharmacists the data they need to manage medication therapy more efficiently. These include real-time clinical surveillance, comprehensive patient data and integrated, patient-specific Micromedex reference content.

The Pharmacy Xpert real-time clinical surveillance capability uses clinical profiles to automatically identify patients who are at risk of an adverse event, such as a potentially lethal combination or dosage of medications. It is also seen to help pharmacists save thousands of dollars in medication costs by identifying alternative, yet equally effective, medication therapies - such as a lower-cost oral medication in place of a drug administered intravenously.

Included with the solution are more than 50 pre-built profiles that cover the following categories: antimicrobial monitoring, anticoagulation monitoring, glycemic monitoring, intravenous-to-oral conversion, narrow therapeutic indexing and patient safety. The profiles have been developed using Micromedex evidence-based reference content.

Using data aggregated from disparate information systems throughout the hospital, the single screen dashboard is projected to present pharmacists with comprehensive data about their patients. This includes critical lab values, medication lists, vital signs, microbiology reports, demographics and transcribed reports.

It also includes integrated Micromedex evidence-based reference information. The pharmacist can now access, with a single click, patient-specific Micromedex content for any prescribed medication directly from the patient record. With real-time access to this comprehensive patient data and reference content, pharmacists can expect to be equipped with all the information they need to make fully informed treatment recommendations more efficiently.

Pharmacy Xpert is part of the Clinical Xpert suite of clinical workflow solutions. It can be integrated within any hospital IT environment - including hospitals using platforms from Cerner, Eclipsys, Epic, GE, MEDITECH, McKesson and Siemens - giving pharmacists full access to the clinical dashboard in just a few weeks.
