Business information provider Thomson Reuters, US, has announced the publication of a white paper tilted "Top 5 Best Practices for Advancing your Editorial Office". The paper outlines five ways in which scholarly publishers can advance their business by leveraging all that online peer review systems have to offer. Many systems contain similar features and functionality but the real differentiator between systems comes from the provider relationship, it has been observed.
When it comes to peer review management systems, it is said to be imperative to select a single vendor to act as both a provider and an advisor. The advisor can help the publisher identify new ways to gain a competitive advantage, instead of simply managing the administrative process.
According to the white paper, to get the most from their peer review systems, publishers need to be champions for their authors and reviewers; tailor their systems to fit their unique needs; and avoid wasting time and money by simply replicating old procedures. Also, publishers should focus on improving their publication and editorial strategy, instead of managing a process, and select a trusted partner, not just a vendor.
