Three new journals to join Springer Nature’s portfolio from January 2021 -

Three new journals will be launched under the Nature Research imprint at the beginning of 2021. The motivation for launching these journals, as well as their focus and structure, reflects the specific needs of research communities. The journals aim to foster cross disciplinary research and provide venues for such work that is not well served by other journals.

Nature Aging will publish high-quality articles spanning the entire spectrum of research into aging, from the biology of aging and longevity to the socio-economic challenges and opportunities associated with global population aging. The scope of the journal addresses some of the key challenges highlighted through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), for example, health and well-being (SDG3), reduced inequalities (SDG10) and sustainable cities and communities (SDG11).

Nature Reviews Methods Primers will be the second Primers journal in the Nature portfolio and is headed by Chief Editor Dominique Morneau. This special article type provides readers with an overview of a scientific method and its application to different research questions. All articles in the journal will be commissioned and will cover analytical, applied, statistical, theoretical, and computational methods used in the life and physical sciences. Publication of the journal will be weekly.

Nature Computational Science will be led by Fernando Chirigati and focuses on the development of new computational methodologies and their application to address real, complex problems across a range of scientific disciplines. Integral to the editorial strategy of this journal will be the use of code peer review through the integration of a platform that enables code deposition and review, Code Ocean. To further enable the early sharing of research the journal will actively support the deposition of preprints prior to submission, and include clear signposting from the original article to its associated preprint.

All three titles will be published online-only, and for submissions from January 2021 Nature Aging and Nature Computational Science will be Transformative Journals. This means that Plan S-funded authors, and others wishing to publish open access, can submit their primary research to these journals safe in the knowledge that they will be complying with their funders’ requirements. Like all Nature-branded journals, the new launches will be operated by a team of professional editors who oversee the careful selection, commissioning, fair and rigorous peer-review, accurate editing, rapid publication and broad dissemination of primary research and commissioned content.
