Wiley-Blackwell, the STM and scholarly business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc., US, has announced that TRANSFUSION, a publication for new information regarding transfusion medicine and the official peer-reviewed journal of AABB, is marking its 50th anniversary with a number of special activities. The journal is published by Wiley-Blackwell.
The centerpiece of the commemorative events is publication of monthly commentaries written by the associate editors and invited contributors. These commentaries examine developments of significance addressed by the journal over the past 50 years.
Transfusion medicine has evolved from a mostly laboratory-based discipline to a multi-focused laboratory and clinical field, touching on most areas of medical practice. The commentaries will trace the editorial content that initially covered techniques, blood preservation, blood group-immunology, genetics and anthropology to the expansion that has included clinical areas such as blood management, therapeutic apheresis, cellular therapies and tissue transplantation. The commentaries and other journal content are available at www.transfusion.org.
The anniversary celebration is also observed by special graphic treatments for the journal covers in 2010. In addition, all TRANSFUSION subscribers received with their April issue a commemorative bookmark featuring a timeline of significant journal milestones.
In July, August, and September, the online journal will offer 10 multiple-choice questions based on the content in the anniversary commentaries from January through July. Selected at random from among those who answer the questions correctly, three winners will each receive an autographed copy of the prestigious Rossi's Principles of Transfusion Medicine, published by Wiley-Blackwell in collaboration with AABB.
