Technical information provider UBM Electronics, a UBM company, has announced the redesign of EDN.com, the Electronics Design Network, a new online community designed for electronics design engineers, developers, and industry-related management. EDN serves as the go-to source for expert information and resources for electronics engineers worldwide.
The new EDN website will continue to provide users with in-depth technical and how-to information and technology updates, while raising the bar on learning, design tools, networking, mentoring and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing, and discussion opportunities.
Along with expert content, tools, and resources the website will include new community features to enable participants to share their own content, ideas, and experiences directly on EDN.com and within the community. EDN.com will also bring users into the conversation through moderated discussions, blogs, and a full suite of multimedia content such as video and audio.
The site incorporates data from DataSheets.com, a website created for design engineers and electronics purchasing professionals to quickly and easily find electronics parts and inventory. EDN.com also has launched a formal mentoring programme to help new engineers learn from their more experienced counterparts, and vice versa.
In keeping with the evolving way engineers are finding and using professional information, in Q3 2012 EDN will be available in a tablet version as well as a mobile app. Also, beginning with the June 21, 2012 issue, EDN will change its print frequency from 24 issues per year to 12 issues per year augmented with six themed supplements that pick a hot topic and bring the full resources of EDN to bear in helping designers understand and design to it. To complete the circle from online connections to face-to-face meetings, EDN will also be more tightly linked with UBM Electronics' annual DesignCon event beginning with the January 2013 show and conference.
Brand Director and editorial expert Patrick Mannion will lead the EDN.com content team. Mannion has more than 20 years of editorial experience in the electronics OEM media industry.
