Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), through its Institute for Journal Development, Publication, and Intellectual Property Rights (LPJPHKI), has strengthened its presence in international academic publishing with 21 journals indexed in Scopus as of 2026. The achievement reflects ongoing efforts to build a high‑quality and ethical publication ecosystem.
Prof. Ferry Efendi, Head of LPJPHKI, stated that the milestone demonstrates the collective commitment of the academic community to journal development. He emphasized that the focus is not only on the number of journals but also on their quality and integrity.
He explained that research should extend beyond drafts stored on personal devices and reach wider audiences to drive meaningful change. Publications, he noted, can influence governance, product development, and public policy, serving as a bridge between academic knowledge and societal needs. He described this as policy impact when research informs decision‑making, and knowledge impact when it advances theories and academic understanding.
Prof. Efendi highlighted that the way people access knowledge continues to evolve, with social media and digital platforms now complementing traditional outlets such as television, radio, and newspapers. He stressed that publications must be disseminated through diverse channels to maximize reach.
UNAIR’s indexed journals cover a wide range of disciplines, including social sciences, humanities, health, science and technology, economics, and business. Each journal is expected to encourage original and distinctive research rather than replicate existing studies. The journals also adhere to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to uphold research and publication integrity.
