University Libraries sign open access publishing agreement with the Royal Society of Chemistry -

University Libraries have entered into a new “read and publish” agreement with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), offering expanded access and publishing opportunities for researchers across all University of Nebraska (NU) campuses. Effective January 1, 2025, the agreement provides subscription access to the entire suite of RSC journals, along with Open Access (OA) publishing options for corresponding authors affiliated with NU, at no cost to the authors themselves.

Under this agreement, Article Processing Charges (APCs) for publishing in RSC journals are fully covered by UNL Libraries, removing financial barriers for authors. This initiative supplements existing Open Access agreements with publishers like Wiley, Cambridge University Press, Biochemical Society/Portland Press, Institute of Physics (IOP) Publishing, Microbiology Society, and The Company of Biologists. Since 2021, UNL Libraries have facilitated over $250,000 in APC savings for authors.

To qualify for the APC waiver, corresponding authors must be affiliated with a University of Nebraska institution. Articles published under this agreement will remain copyright-protected by the authors and will be released under either a CC-BY or CC-BY-NC license, enabling broad dissemination and reuse. Detailed instructions for authors are available through the RSC.

Additionally, the agreement allows for unlimited reading access to all RSC journals, further supporting research and academic discovery across disciplines. Authors also have the option to make their work openly accessible through the UNL Libraries Digital Commons repository, provided their publisher agreement permits.

This partnership underscores the University Libraries’ ongoing commitment to fostering open research and facilitating global accessibility to scientific knowledge.
