University of California's Office of Scholarly Communication unveils new initiative aimed at advancing inclusivity and equity within scholarly publishing -

The University of California's Office of Scholarly Communication (OSC) has introduced its latest endeavor, the "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Scholarly Communication" resource. This pioneering platform is dedicated to supporting the UC community in comprehending and addressing the challenges associated with achieving and sustaining diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within scholarly publishing, offering actionable steps for authors, peer reviewers, journal editors, and librarians.

The resource highlights various proactive measures that different stakeholders within the scholarly ecosystem can take to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. It outlines suggestions such as authors critically assessing unconscious biases influencing publishing choices, editorial board members broadening the reviewer pool, and peer reviewers utilizing training resources aimed at fostering bias-free review practices. It also emphasizes the importance of publishers implementing inclusive language guidelines and training their teams to align with shared DEI objectives.

The University of California, renowned for its commitment to diversity, considers supporting a diverse community of scholars and researchers as integral to advancing knowledge. OSC aims for this resource to encourage a range of perspectives, amplifying the breadth and depth of understanding, and empowering stakeholders to effectively confront the pressing challenges of our era.

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Scholarly Communication resource represents a pivotal step towards fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within scholarly publishing, serving as a catalyst for change and progress within the academic community. As the UC community embraces this initiative, the hope is to create a more inclusive landscape that propels the exchange of diverse ideas and knowledge.
