The University of Glasgow has selected OCLC’s WorldShare Management Services (WMS) as its new cloud-based library services platform, shifting toward improved digital infrastructure and cybersecurity.
The institution, a global top 100 university and one of Scotland’s historic ‘Ancient Universities,’ will implement WMS to streamline the management of physical and electronic resources while enhancing the user experience. The decision followed an extensive evaluation process.
According to Dr. George Macgregor, Assistant Director of the Digital Library at Glasgow, the new system offers improved resource discovery and user interface capabilities. Enhancing cybersecurity credentials and OCLC’s information security certifications were also critical decision factors.
OCLC’s WMS provides integrated library workflows and access to data analytics that align with institutional priorities. Glasgow’s adoption of the platform contributes to the growing uptake of WMS among UK universities.
The implementation was supported through the Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges (APUC) framework, a strategic procurement initiative serving Scotland’s higher education institutions. The move is expected to enhance Glasgow’s ability to deliver digital services at scale while ensuring data security and operational efficiency.
