Library automation solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced that the University of Iowa has selected Ex Libris Alma for next-generation resource management services. Alma will replace a number of systems, including the Aleph integrated library system.
Having used Aleph for 15 years, Iowa Libraries were keen to move to a cloud-based SaaS system that offers unified workflows for print, electronic, and digital collections, as well as enabling dynamic collaborations with the school's partners in Iowa and more widely. The libraries sought a robust system that would offer unified management of resources together with enhanced analytics and reporting functions, integrated with their existing unified discovery interface for their extensive collections.
A major research and teaching institution, the University of Iowa offers internationally recognized programs in a diverse array of academic, medical, and artistic disciplines. The University of Iowa has a faculty of 2,800 and a permanent staff of 16,000 serving 31,000 students, almost 40 percent of whom are from out of state and close to 10,000 of whom are registered in graduate and professional degree programs.
