University of Macau joins global open access community through partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry -

In a significant step towards expanding its global Open Access (OA) community, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has struck a transformative deal with the University of Macau. This agreement not only reinforces the RSC's commitment to fostering OA initiatives worldwide but also supports the University of Macau in its scholarly endeavors.

The addition of the University of Macau to the RSC's roster of partner organizations marks a pivotal moment, bringing the total number of countries and regions involved in the initiative to an impressive 41. With over 1,300 institutions now benefiting from the RSC's OA agreements, this collaboration underscores the organization's dedication to promoting open and accessible research dissemination on a global scale.

The University of Macau, renowned for its academic excellence and comprising a primarily English-speaking student body of over 10,000 individuals, stands as a leading institution in the Special Administrative Region (SAR). This partnership with the RSC aligns with the university's mission to advance scholarly communication and contribute high-quality research to the global scientific community.

The agreement between the RSC and the University of Macau is part of the RSC's broader strategy to transition its portfolio of journals to Open Access by 2028. Through pilot models like this one, the RSC aims to provide support to its global institutional customer base, ensuring a smooth transition towards OA publication. By 2028, the RSC envisions that the majority of its authors will be covered by institutional OA agreements, further solidifying its commitment to open and transparent scientific communication.

As the University of Macau joins forces with the RSC to advance the principles of Open Access, this collaboration exemplifies the collective effort towards democratizing access to scientific knowledge and fostering greater collaboration in the global research community.
