University of Sheffield to use Ex Libris Rosetta digital asset management solution -

Library automation services provider Ex Libris Group has announced that the University of Sheffield in the UK has selected the Rosetta digital asset management and preservation solution. Rosetta will ensure the sustainable preservation of the digitised objects created by the University Library's Special Collections Department and the National Fairground Archive, a unique collection of videos, texts, audio files, and pictures about the culture and history of travelling fairs and entertainment, as well as the large collection of University's born-digital material which includes scholarly research data, administrative records, and departmental publications.

The Sheffield Medical School, Firth College, and Sheffield Technical School merged to form the University College of Sheffield in 1897, which became the University of Sheffield in 1905. The University now has over 26,000 students from over 130 countries, with a faculty and staff of about 6,000. Academic departments are grouped into five faculties: Arts and Humanities; Engineering; Medicine, Dentistry, and Health; Science; and Social Sciences. The University Library has a reputation for innovation and a strong focus on customer satisfaction. Its digital and print services are delivered from five sites, including the award-winning Information Commons, an integrated learning environment for students.
