University of Valencia signs transformative agreement with BMJ Publishing Group -

The University of Valencia Library has signed a new transformative license agreement with BMJ Publishing Group covering the period from January 1 to December 31, 2026.

Under the agreement, the university will receive online access to the BMJ Standard Collection, enabling consultation of current issues as well as the historical archive of journals included in the collection during the subscription period. Access to back issues will remain available while the subscription is valid.

The license also enables authors affiliated with the University of Valencia to publish eligible articles accepted in BMJ Group hybrid journals included in the agreement in open access without additional Article Processing Charges (APCs). This provision supports institutional efforts to expand open access participation in scholarly publishing.

Articles published through the agreement will be distributed under Creative Commons licenses, allowing wider visibility, reuse, and compliance with requirements set by major research funding bodies. The arrangement aims to support researchers by facilitating broader dissemination of research outputs while maintaining access to subscription journal content.

The agreement forms part of the University of Valencia Library’s broader strategy to strengthen access to scholarly publications and support open access publishing opportunities for affiliated researchers.
