University of Zagreb adopts Open Science Policy to promote accessibility and collaboration in research.
The University of Zagreb has formally adopted a comprehensive Open Science Policy, marking a significant step toward enhancing research accessibility and collaboration. The policy, approved by the University Senate during a regular meeting, reflects the institution’s commitment to advancing open science practices that strengthen research integrity, foster public trust, and ensure equal access to scientific knowledge.
As Croatia’s largest and oldest university, contributing over half of the nation’s scientific output, the University of Zagreb has taken a leadership role in shaping open science practices. By adopting this policy, the University aligns itself with EU standards and international guidelines from UNESCO and other global academic alliances. The policy also supports the national Croatian initiative for an Open Science Cloud (HR-OOZ) and its proposed Croatian Open Science Plan, initiatives in which the University is actively involved.
The Open Science Policy emphasizes transparency, accessibility, and inclusivity in scientific research. Under this policy, the University will make research papers and data produced by its faculty and students widely accessible, encouraging open access to both published results and methodologies. In addition, it supports the use of FAIR data principles to ensure research data is findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable, and advocates for transparency in disclosing author affiliations and funding sources.
