The Association of University Presses (AUPresses) has announced plans for its highly anticipated 2024 Annual Meeting, scheduled to take place in the vibrant city of Montréal, Quebec, from June 11th to 13th.
With the preliminary program now available and registration officially open, anticipation is building for this flagship event, which promises to offer an enriching experience for university press publishers from around the world.
The 2024 Annual Meeting Program Committee, co-chaired by David Aycock, Deputy Director of Baylor University Press, and Michelle Sybert, Assistant Director of University of Notre Dame Press, has curated a dynamic agenda comprising three plenaries, over 35 concurrent sessions, and numerous networking events. These sessions are designed to inspire, inform, and foster collaboration within the community of mission-driven publishers.
Themes such as artificial intelligence, equity, justice, inclusion, accessibility, open access, and building strong publication lists will take center stage during this year's program, reflecting the pressing issues and evolving landscape of academic publishing.
Distinguished plenary speakers will provide invaluable insights into key topics of interest to the publishing community: Charles Forsdick, James Barrow Professor of French at the University of Liverpool, will delve into the importance of diversity of voices through translation, drawing on his expertise in the field; Guillaume Lajoie, Assistant Professor at the University of Montréal, and Peter Schoppert, Director of the National University of Singapore Press, will explore the intersection of artificial intelligence and publishing; and Kimberley Stephenson, Trade Buyer at McGill University Bookstore, will shed light on the state of independent bookselling in Canada and offer perspectives on academic publishing in North America.
In addition to plenaries, attendees can participate in a diverse array of sessions covering topics ranging from controversial publishing topics to social media marketing strategies. Pre-meeting gatherings will address specific interests of business operations professionals and journal editors, among others.
A highlight of the conference will be the celebration of the 2024 Book, Jacket, and Journal Show, recognizing outstanding design and production in university press publications. This year's competition received over 500 entries, highlighting the commitment to excellence within the industry.
With a focus on professional education and networking, the AUPresses Annual Meeting provides invaluable opportunities for members to enhance their skills, share best practices, and connect with peers from across the globe. By offering group deals for member presses and discounted registration rates for nonmembers, AUPresses ensures accessibility to this premier event.
