VTLS to implement VITAL repository for National Centre for Vocational Education Research' VOCED database -

Library automation solutions provider VTLS Inc., US, has announced that it has been selected to implement the VITAL repository for the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) VOCED database. The project, which began last April, is going to be a multi-phase process and will involve the integration of traditional, print-based and new, digital knowledge sources. In addition to the standard VITAL implementation, VTLS is creating a custom web portal interface using open-source Drupal to meet NCVER's unique needs.

NCVER selected the VITAL product for the redevelopment of its online bibliographic database, VOCED, because it offers the flexibility of a custom-built system along with the reliability of an 'out of the box' product. This allows VTLS to combine a bibliographic database with a digital repository, and to integrate traditional knowledge sources with new web technologies.

The Software implementation phase was accepted earlier this month with the handover phase to be complete by the middle of December. NCVER is expected to go live in 2011. The project is now in handover phase and VTLS is working towards organising the Customer Support meeting and training.

VTLS has successfully delivered the redeveloped online bibliographic database VOCED for NCVER using the VITAL product. The new system, due for public release in February 2011, enables a bibliographic database to be combined with a digital repository, and the integration of a range of knowledge sources, including new web technologies.
