Wiley has selected nine experienced editors to drive the expansion of its Advanced Portfolio journals into life and health sciences. This initiative builds on Wiley’s strategy to extend its highly regarded journals—originally focused on materials science, physics, and engineering—into interdisciplinary fields that support scientific advancement.
Following the October 2024 announcement of this expansion, Wiley is integrating life and health sciences coverage into Advanced Science before launching several new Advanced journals in the coming years. The newly appointed editors will play a key role in shaping this growth.
The editorial team includes:
• Abel Barral Cuesta (ecology and environmental science) – Formerly with One Earth, Nature Ecology & Evolution, and Nature Plants, he brings expertise in ecological and environmental research.
• Kerstin Brachhold (biology) – Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Biology and BioEssays, with a PhD from the University of Cologne.
• Yuming Hu (genetics and genomics) – Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Genetics, with a background in plant development and environmental health research.
• Andrew Jobbins (neuroscience) – Former Nature Communications editor, specializing in molecular and cell biology.
• Lei Lei (plant biology) – Leading Wiley’s Advanced life and health sciences team, previously a senior editor at Nature Plants.
• Monty Montano (aging) – Editor for aging in Advanced Science, with a research background at Harvard Medical School.
• Paulina Strzyz (cell and molecular biology) – Formerly with Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology and Cell Press.
• Ada Wong (oncology) – Specializing in precision cancer medicine, with a PhD from Tsinghua University.
• Taolan Zhao (food, aquaculture, and agriculture) – Co-Editor-in-Chief of Modern Agriculture, with expertise in genetics.
With this expansion, the Advanced Portfolio will strengthen its presence in life and health sciences, ensuring greater interdisciplinary engagement. Wiley’s research division aims to provide a platform for groundbreaking discoveries across these fields while maintaining the rigorous editorial standards that define the portfolio’s reputation.
