Wiley-Blackwell, the STM and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc, US, has announced an agreement with the University of Pennsylvania Health System's Center for Evidence-Based Practice (CEP). Under the deal, Wiley-Blackwell will provide InfoPOEMs with InfoRetriever to primary health physicians of the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
InfoPOEMs (Patient-Oriented Evidence that Matters) are summaries of evidence-based medical (EBM) research filtered from more than 120 leading peer-reviewed journals that are graded for validity and relevance to patient outcomes. POEMs are delivered daily via e-mail. About one in 40 eligible studies is converted into a POEM and each POEM is peer reviewed prior to publication.
InfoRetriever is a web-based software tool that enables access to EBM resources at the clinical point-of-care. Available via desktop computers and Personal Digital Assistants, InfoRetriever includes a suite of databases, including InfoPOEMs, Cochrane Database Abstracts, Guideline Summaries, Clinical Decision Rules, and 5-Minute Clinical Consult; more than 3000 calculators, including Diagnostic Test, History, and Physical Exam Accuracy Calculators; and additional tools.
In January 2008, Wiley-Blackwell will relaunch an enhanced version of InfoPOEMs with InfoRetriever under the new name Essential Evidence Plus. In addition to InfoPOEMs and InfoRetriever, Essential Evidence Plus will incorporate two new content resources-EBM Guidelines and e-Essential Evidence-which will greatly augment existing product features and content.
