Wiley-Blackwell, the STM and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc, US, has announced the February 2008 launch of a new journal, Sports Technology. The journal will be edited by Prof. Franz Konstantin Fuss of Nanyang Technological University, Prof. Aleksandar Subic of RMIT University, and Dr. Rabindra D. Mehta of the Sports Aerodynamics Consultant. They will be strongly supported by an editorial board comprising prominent international experts.
Sports Technology is aimed at bridging the divide between academic researchers, industry and sporting leaders. The journal will feature peer-reviewed scientific and technical research and development articles covering pure and applied technology. It will also publish review articles, opinion pieces written by leading sports people, as well as rapid communications for particularly urgent results - including those from the world championships and the Olympic Games.
The inaugural issue of Sports Technology highlights a number of topics that are not only cutting-edge but also pertinent to the sporting community. This includes science and technology behind the Tour golf balls, a review of tennis ball aerodynamics, a research article on new sophisticated performance analysis in alpine skiing, the design of high performance running shoes, the shock absorption properties of artificial turf surfaces; as well as an article on how sportsmen may leverage on video technology to improve their athletic performance.
