Wiley launches pilot pricing framework to support equitable open access publishing for researchers in Latin America -

Wiley, a global leader in research and learning, has launched a pilot pricing framework to support equitable open access (OA) publishing for researchers in Latin America. The initiative, which began on January 21, 2025, aims to reduce barriers for authors in the region by offering discounted Article Publication Charges (APCs) based on each participating country's Purchasing Power Index (PPI).

The pilot program is designed to benefit scholars across 33 countries in Latin America, including Mexico, South American nations, and the Caribbean. With nearly 600 gold open access journals in its portfolio, Wiley will apply the discounts directly in accordance with each country's PPI, as informed by data from the World Bank International Comparison Program.

The program is set to run for 12 months, with a mid-term review scheduled to assess progress and inform future actions. Beyond the pilot, Wiley also continues to provide waivers and discounts to authors from Research4Life countries, an initiative aimed at fostering global research collaboration. Furthermore, the publisher has established open access agreements with institutions across Latin America, further solidifying its dedication to supporting research communities worldwide.

This new pricing structure is expected to encourage even greater participation from researchers in Latin America, ultimately contributing to the growth of global knowledge sharing and collaboration in the academic world.
